I got this tool, because I was curious to see how much easier it would really make it to pushing fittings for a drip system. It does do the job and I like how the fittings like a coupling are held in place pretty good. Also, before I forget, it is made for the barbed fittings. And I found that out because I have the other type of fittings that are smooth all around and it’s not for those. I like that it’s small and it doesn’t take up too much space in the toolbox. One thing is I definitely need to keep track of it because it is small. It does help with the pushing in of the barbed fittings. Normally I would have to just turn them on my way in and sometimes it would be a little hard. The tool does help. It makes it so my fingers are more free and more leverage. You can even use it with a T fitting the T would just be facing out of the open area. The tool is plastic, so maybe that’s just one little downside to it. It is made of good plastic though. I like the tool, but one thing about it is I worked fine without it. Having it is nice. So really it’s just up to the person. It does help. So you have more leverage. So it is a good addition to have.

I’m getting ready to install drip irrigation on a steep hillside at the end of our backyard. Anything that makes the job easier will be a blessing. The emitter tool is low-cost at The Home Depot and I did see it for more money online. I’ll be installing about 40 emitters. The design is simple and provides for installation and removal. Insert the non-barbed end of the emitter into the center of the tool end for installation. Use the notch on the side of the tool for removal. The plastic used in construction seems durable and the way the end is formed is ergonomically designed so that your thumb and index finger rest comfortably against the end of the tool to apply pressure for insertion. I also have the barbed fitting so you may want to see my review for that as well. Included is a picture of both tools. I’ll be getting the tubing cutters as well when I get the rest of my materials for the project. The tool can be used for barbed fittings as well but you can get more “oomph” during insertion with the specific barbed fitting tool in my opinion. For less than $2 you can get a handy little punch. It makes sense to have a complete set of tools with the tubing cutters as well if you don’t already have one for drip line tubing and ½ and ¾ inch irrigation lines. The entire set runs about $40 and the job should go much faster.

I'm a big fan of Rain Bird brand irrigation products, especially drip irrigation emitters which I have used for 30 years. This 1/2" barb fitting insertion tool is designed to insert Rain Bird branded barb fitting in 1/2" poly irrigation hose, such as Rain Bird Drip Emitter Tubing. Barbed fittings are available as connectors, elbows and tees. This tool will work with them all. The fittings snap into the tool, then you press the barbed end into the hose using your fingers and palm (see photo).\n\nI used the tool recently when installing an irrigation lines to drip irrigate a small hillside. The tool made installing the fitting very easy. My only complaint is that it hold the fitting so tightly it can be a bit of a challenge getting the fitting back out of the tool. Hint: the fittings come out much easier after they have been inserted into a hose, and using the hose as leverage..\n\nMade in Mexico

Does a few things well, but missing key features for the money... PROS: works well for inserting barbed fittings into 1/4" drip tubing, such as straight, 90's or tees (as it holds the barbed fitting while pushing the tubing onto it with one's other hand (by the way, wearing those thin, woven, nitrile coating gloves makes working with the fittings and tubing MUCH easier because it provides secure frictional grip with tactile feel to grasp these small parts); the Notch in the edge will likely work well for pulling barbed fittings out of the larger 1/2" black poly tubing (though I haven't yet used that feature). CONS: lacks a feature for inserting a 1/4" inch barbed fitting (whether just a pass-through or an emitter type) into a pre-punched hole in the 1/2" tubing -- once the 1/4" drip tube is attached to that fitting -- a process that requires a strong grip and significant force to do ... (see my annotated photo); does not include any sort of pointed plastic (or metal) punch for making the hole in the 1/2: tubing ... [I'd recommend the punch be Metal for durability)... otherwise, a separate hole punch should be included with this tool to make it's price more reasonable (such as a Rain Bird HPUN1-1S or a DIG model D44 and the separate punch should be Bright Orange in color.

I've had one of these in my "drip irrigation tackle box" for several years, and I think it great for those times when you are installing drip irrigation fittings/emitters, or performing maintenance. I'll keep this second one in my irrigation maintenance apron that I wear when checking irrigation.\n\nNote that all of my drippers are Rain Bird brand, but this tool works with many different fittings and brands. \n\nI have a separate tool for puncturing my lateral supply hoses, then I use this tool to insert drippers, fittings or "goof plugs."\n\nShape, size and color make it easy to find in my field apron, and it make inserting fittings much easier.\n\nMade in Mexico

I run drip irrigation in 8 raised beds with more than 75 feet of irrigation tubing. I have a tool to punch the hole for an emitter then push the emitter, barb fitting, etc in. This tool allows me to push it in in one step. While this tool works well in warm weather, I found that when its cool the pipe is harder making it hard to punch a hole. I do more of my irrigation setup work when its cooler, but this tool works well. I also like u-shape cut-in in the handle for sliding behind the emitter and popping it out when changing emitters. It is stout and seems to handle the pressure well. I change gallon per minute (gpm) at least once per year depending on rainfall. Good quality tool at a good price

The recess(es) in the tool hold the fitting in place while the while the index and middle finger handles allow you to get a good grip on the tool along with the contoured end of the tool where you push with the palm of your hand. Like the emitter tool and the tubing cutters, the plastic used to make the tool appears to be a high impact, durable plastic. Instructions are on the bag the tool comes in and are straightforward. You can get a full set of tools including this one, the emitter tool, a simple punch and tubing cutters for around $40. Seems well worth it to make the job go faster and smoother.

This is a handy little tool for installing barbs from feeder lines into the main tubing for a drip system. If you have the barbs already, they simply attach to the end of the tool and can then be easily pushed into the main tube. I did notice that you can't have the feeder line attached to the barb and punch it into the main line with this tool, it has to be the barb only, then once that's punched you can attach the feeder line. It also has a notch in the handle which can be used for pulling drip emitters from the main tube. Overall, this is a handy tool for installing a drip system.

Since this is low pressure just getting the ½” pipe on tees, elbows and couplings connected are the biggest chore. This tool makes the process easier by snapping the coupling in the tool and pressing the ½” pipe on it. This is much better than doing it with just your hands. It fits in my pocket. It has push end that fits my palm and two ears to wrap my fingers around. Good grip, nice handy tool

When I got this product I was a little shocked to see the bright color. It does not affect the quality or the functional ability of the product in any way. After talking with some of the yard maintenance men I realize the color is a real plus. If it falls out of your pocket, you can easily see it or if the mowing guys are mowing they can see it before they hit it with a mower. The workings of the small hand tool is awesome. It can tighten connections, adjust the spray heads of the sprinkler and much more. If I was working for a lawn sprinkler company, I would definitely have one of these in my trick bag. Now that I have my very own, I can adjust the sprinkle heads to get the best coverage in my yard. This is a very handy to have tool.

It is amazing how this little tool will save your hands when trying to push fittings into your drip line. It’s designed to install the 1/2” drip tubing elbows, couplers, and Tees into the trip tubbing. It’s handle also allows you to widen the tub to easily push the fittings into. Although it is lightweight and inexpensive, this little tool is made of strong plastic which will make your life so much easier. I was able to add additional lines by easily adding T’s to my existing drip line which was installed by my Irrigation installer. By doing it yourself you will save a ton of time and money.

This is a 4-in-1 tool to insert and remove barbed couplings from drip irrigation systems. My only issues is that it seems pricey for a small bit of plastic, but it does the job it's supposed to do. You could get away without it, but I think it saves time in the long run, and is especially helpful for people without a strong grip. The color is helpful to avoid loosing it in the soil (I loose a lot of little black fittings!). Might be a good idea to tie a string to it and keep it tied to your belt when you have a big drip irrigation project.

You can technically insert 1/2 in. Drip barb fittings without a tool but your hands will get very tired and sore if you’ve got a lot to do. So the most important thing about a tool like this is that it needs to be ergonomic and ease the strain of repetitive work. This tool definitely meets that criteria as it fits comfortably in your hand and there is a nice pad that you push with your palm so you can use your larger arm rather than your hand to do the majority of the work. Such a smart little tool in a simple form.
