The Kansas Jayhawks played perhaps the game of the year in the 2025-26 men’s college basketball season on Tuesday, January 6, and for them, the 104-100 overtime win over Texas Christian University meant a little more.

The Kansas Jayhawks basketball team dedicated their shocking comeback win against TCU on Tuesday, Jan. 6 to beloved academic advisor Scott “Scooter” Ward, who died three days earlier.

The TCU Horned Frogs and the No. 21 Kansas Jayhawks meet Tuesday at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. ET.

In a game that went down to the wire, the Jayhawks played the final 10 minutes without star guard Darryn Peterson, who coach Bill Self said postgame was on a minutes restriction. Self also seemed to indicate Peterson, who has suffered through various leg ailments, may have been dealing with cramping again down the stretch.

Former Jayhawk Joel Embiid scored 28 points, Paul George added 23 and all of Philadelphia’s starters scored in double-figures as the 76ers beat the Washington Wizards 131-110 on Wednesday night. Tyrese Maxey contributed 22 points and eight assists for the 76ers,

The Kansas women’s basketball team is on the board in Big 12 play. The Jayhawks recorded their first conference win of the season with an 83-68 victory over UCF in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday afternoon in a battle of teams who had started 0-2 in the league.

Scott Ward, who worked with KU basketball players for two decades and helped numerous players earn their degrees, died Saturday at age 59.
